About Us
I have always enjoyed farming. I started farming with my dad in the mid 1970’s when my father and I had a small hobby farm in Hastings, NY. We started with one cow and two pigs and grew rapidly. Within eight years we ended up with 13 cows, 80-90 pigs, ducks, chickens, and turkeys. My parents sold the farm in Hastings in 1984, and we moved closer to Syracuse.
In 1993 my parents bought another property (on the outskirts of East Syracuse), which was a dormant farm. On the farm over several years, my parents grew vegetables, sold fire wood, raised a few pigs, and a couple dozen chickens. In 2006, while I was engaged to my now lovely wife, Mary, my parents offered to sell me the farm. My dad passed away just a few short months after that, and I decided to wait to buy the farm from my mom until I married my wife (Mary). Mary and I purchased the house and farm from my mom in July 2007. I initially continued to raise the pigs and chickens my dad had on the farm, but by the winter of 2007 I gave away the chickens and had the pigs taken to market.
Since my wife and I have had the farm, I have continued to sell firewood, grow and sell vegetables. In 2009, we started to make maple syrup on the farm with the vast number of maples we have on our 13+ acres. Our son, Jake, was born in 2008, and he likes to help collect the sap from the sap buckets and make the maple syrup. It really has become a terrific family affair.
